Culture Shock
Most people on the island lead a peaceful and happy existence. There is a medium level of culture shock.
Expect things to be done slowly, (Fijian time), if at all (there is always tomorrow).
As it is a remote island, there is no television, radio and limited communication with the outside world. Although Fijians are relatively clean people, don't expect the level of cleanliness and convenience you find in Western cultures.
· Don't expect to be eating on a table with knife and forks, all Fijians eat on the floor and most use their fingers.
· There is a limited amount of power available, so don't expect creature comforts such as air-conditioning.
· Everything is all but closed on Sundays and don't expect any local activity on Sunday, as it is all church going for most of the locals.
Fitness
Some activities may include strenuous activities such as trekking through the jungle, in hot, humid weather, on sometimes, steep terrain and even slippery tracks, especially after rain.
Our Adventure tour is recommended for travellers who have at least, an average level of fitness to prevent you from excessive fatigue (or injuries) at the end of the day, which may prevent you from participating the next day. Most of our tour have not been designed to be excessively strenuous, however due to the excessive elements, such as heat, humidity and rain, it may make activities strenuous, if you have a below than average level of fitness.
What is an average level of fitness?
There is no hard and fast rule on the definition of "average" level of fitness, however the bare minimum is, you should be able to trek 2- 3 hours on moderately steep terrain, in hot (29-32 deg C), humid (78-82% RH) weather.
Illnesses, Disabilities or 60+
If you are over the age of 60 or have an existing illness or injury or disability, that may limit you from actively participating on the tour, then please read our Terms and Conditions very carefully.
Families
The Adventure Tours are suitable and recommended for children. However the following limitations apply:
· We do not accept children less than 6 years of age.
· Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult traveller.
Taveuni Adventures has guidelines for children travelling on our tours and can be viewed on the link below.
